- cooking oil or ghee
- 1/2 medium onion, diced small
- chopped garlic
- 1 cup whole lentils/dal, black or green
- 2 cups water
Saute onions in the oil or ghee in the pressure cooker. Add the lentils and the water and set for 7 minutes at high pressure. (If doubling the recipe, use 4 cups of water for 2 cups of lentils and set for 10 minutes.) When it is done, add
- 1 15-oz can of ground tomatoes
- 2 cans kidney beans(Rajma), drained and rinsed
- powdered ginger
- ground fennel seeds
- Red chili powder (according to taste)
- ground cumin
- Garam Masala
- a slash of whole milk
- chopped coriander leaves (optional)
- Salt to taste
Stir together, adjust seasonings, and serve hot over rice.
